Ok so you want to carry the bazillion keys that you have. Assuming you have already gone through them and figured out which ones are worth keeping and which ones aren't you now need something to carry them on. If you like everyday carry stuff then you probably have considered using a sort of carabiner based keychains. Nite Ize has a couple of good options, they have a more carabiner based design and they also have a design called the S-biner. What are the key differences? We ask Chat GPT, but as usual before we get to that, let's take a look at the two items in question.
First we the Nite Ize Slidelock which is their version of the more typical carabiner keychain. Currently on Amazon for $9.75 and it has a 4.7 star score on over 1,100 ratings.
Next we have the Nite Ize S-biner. Currently on Amazon for $2.97 and it has a 4.6 star score on over 2,900 ratings.
So besides price which on face seems to be the biggest difference, let's see what Chat GPT has to say on the matter...
"Choosing between a carabiner keychain and an S-Biner for your keys depends on your preferences, needs, and the specific features you're looking for. Here are some factors to consider:
Load-Bearing Capacity:
Carabiner Keychain: Carabiner keychains are often designed with load-bearing capacity in mind, especially if they are designed for climbing or outdoor activities. If you anticipate putting additional weight on your keychain, a carabiner may be a more suitable choice.
S-Biner: S-Biners are generally not designed for load-bearing applications. While they are durable and secure for everyday use, they are not intended for supporting heavy weights.
Ease of Use:
Carabiner Keychain: Carabiners typically have a spring-loaded gate that can be opened with one hand, making them easy to use. Some carabiner keychains also feature locking mechanisms for added security.
S-Biner: S-Biners have a double-gated design, and each gate can be opened independently. They may require a bit more dexterity to use than a standard carabiner, but they are still user-friendly.
Organization:
Carabiner Keychain: Carabiners provide a simple and effective way to organize keys. You can easily clip and unclip keys as needed.
S-Biner: S-Biners are designed with organization in mind. The double-gated design allows you to attach and detach items quickly, making it easy to separate keys or other gear.
Versatility:
Carabiner Keychain: Carabiner keychains are versatile and can be used for various purposes, including securing gear, attaching items to a backpack, or even for climbing.
S-Biner: S-Biners are versatile for organizing and securing non-load-bearing items. They come in different sizes and can be used for a variety of everyday tasks.
Aesthetics:
Carabiner Keychain: Carabiners often have a more rugged or outdoor-oriented appearance, which may be appealing if you prefer that style.
S-Biner: S-Biners come in various colors and sizes, and they may have a more modern or utilitarian appearance.
Ultimately, both carabiner keychains and S-Biners can be effective for holding and organizing keys. Consider your specific needs, the weight you'll be carrying, and your personal preferences when making a choice between the two."
That makes sense. The S-biner does appear to be cheaper because it is smaller and meant to not hold as much as the Slidelock. So it all comes down to preference. If you need something more heavy duty, then the slidelock looks to be the better pick. If on the other hand you can get away with something smaller and simpler, the S-biner should do the trick ok.
