We have recently stumbled across a brand that makes audio equipment and it just so happens they have a couple of speakers under $20. So you know what that means, it means we need to do a quick analysis on the products to see if the overall brand is good and worth your time. As usual let's take a look at the two products that we are pulling as samples.
First listing we have is the Altec Lansing Mini H20 Waterproof Bluetooth speaker. Currently on Amazon for $16.10 (for the red one, some colors may be cheaper or more expensive) and it has a 4.4 star rating on over 16,000 ratings.
The second sample we chose is the Altec Lansing mini hydra. Currently on Amazon for $19.88 and it has a 4.3 star score on over 1,000 ratings.
Ok so the one thing that is important to note is that on the Review Meta analysis the H2O had a passing grade. The Hydra however had a little bit of an issue. The site is reading half the ratings as possible suspect. Now the good news is that the score did not move. The bad news is having half your ratings taken certainly doesn't help in building confidence. That being said we can accept a 4.3 score on 500 ratings as enough information to make a judgement.
Now Altec Lansing doesn't have a huge amount of selection under $20. So to get more info we have to look at the other listings they have which are more expensive. The scores aren't gangbusters. We are noticing a lot of 4.3 and 4.4 star scores. The one thing that is worth pointing out is that when we do see issues on the speakers they do seem to hover around the same three things. It's either a battery life issue, connection issue, or performance issue. On the flip side where they do well are also consistent. Traits like overall quality, size, and water resistance.
Based on the data we are seeing, we think we can give Altec Lansing a solid to good brand rating. While it's clear they have some issues and aren't the best, customers do appear to like certain traits about them enough for consideration. At least in the case of the under $20 speakers, you might be getting some good value out of them.
