Every now and then we notice there are two good products under $20 that are made by the same brand. When that happens, it's always a fair question to wonder which one might be the better one to go with. In this case we're talking about JVC and there are two ear bud models that they have. The Gumy and the Marshmallow. Is one better than the other? Let's take a look at the products and then see what Chat GPT can clue us in on.

Below is an example of the JVC Marshmallow. The version with the mic is currently going for $9.95 on Amazon and they have a 4.5 star score on over 1600 rating.

Both of the listings were started in 2017, so it does appear that they Gumy have a better track record sales wise with the increased amount of feedback that it has compared to the marshmallows. That said both listings have solid feedback and while also the Marshmallows are a tad more expensive that is because of the included mic. The version without the mic is much closer in price.

One thing that is worth mentioning is that when we ran both listings through review meta, it was picked up that the Gumy has a high amount of suspicious reviews. When adjusted it drops down to 4.2 while the Marshmallow did not have the score adjusted and so we can assume the 4.5 score is genuine. So now let's see what Chat GPT has to say on the matter.

"JVC Gumy and Marshmallow are both popular lines of earphones produced by JVC, a Japanese consumer electronics company. These earphones are known for their affordable prices and decent audio quality, making them attractive options for casual listeners. However, there are some differences between the two that you might want to consider before making a choice:

1. Design and Comfort:

  • JVC Gumy: These earphones typically have a simpler design and are often made of rubber or plastic materials. The fit might not be as snug or customizable as some other models.

  • JVC Marshmallow: Marshmallow earphones are designed to provide a more comfortable fit by using softer, memory foam-like ear tips. This can lead to better noise isolation and comfort during extended listening sessions.

2. Sound Quality: Both Gumy and Marshmallow models offer reasonable sound quality for their price range, but Marshmallow models are often praised for slightly better sound clarity and bass response due to their better noise isolation capabilities.

3. Noise Isolation: As mentioned earlier, Marshmallow earphones usually provide better noise isolation due to their memory foam-like ear tips. This can lead to a more immersive listening experience, as outside noise is reduced.

4. Price: Both lines are designed to be affordable, but the prices can vary depending on the specific model and any additional features they might offer.

5. Durability: In terms of durability, the Gumy and Marshmallow lines might have differences depending on the materials used. However, there isn't a clear winner in this aspect, and it often comes down to the specific model.

6. Additional Features: Some models within these lines might come with features like in-line microphone and remote control, allowing you to manage calls and playback without taking out your device.

Ultimately, the choice between JVC Gumy and Marshmallow earphones depends on your preferences and priorities. If comfort and better noise isolation are important to you, then Marshmallow earphones might be a better choice. If you're looking for a simple and affordable option, Gumy earphones could be suitable. I recommend checking out specific models within each line, reading user reviews, and considering your personal preferences for sound quality and comfort before making a decision."

From what we are seeing, it's coming across that the Marshmallow may be the better pick in spite of the fact that the Gumy is the better seller. Maybe the Gumy had better marketing who knows. Either way, it's not too much more of a cost to get the Marshmallow and it does appear the Marshmallow is a better fit and does a better job of isolating noise.
