If you play guitar a lot there is a good bet you have to tune it often. Now most of us may be content to just use an app on our phones to tune our guitar. That said there is a point where having a clip on tuner is really the way to go. It makes life a lot easier and gives you more flexibility in tuning your instrument. There are a lot of options out there and most are under $20. We decided to run a comparison of two of them and see what Chat GPT though. So let's take a look...
Below is the Korg Pitchclip 2. Currently on Amazon for $12.99 and it has a 4.4 star score on over 2500 ratings.
Below is the Snark SN5X. Currently on Amazon for $14.97 with a 4.7 star score on over 32,000 ratings.
The key difference that stands out for now is of course the feedback. The Snark has been a more established brand in the clip on tuner world so it would make more sense that they have a higher score and more reviews. When we run it through Chat GPT though, things get a little interesting...
"The Korg Pitchclip and the Snark are both popular clip-on tuners used for tuning guitars and other instruments. While they serve the same purpose, there are a few differences between them:
Design and Display: The Korg Pitchclip has a compact and sleek design with a bright LED display that shows the note name and tuning status. On the other hand, the Snark tuner has a larger display with a rotating needle that indicates the pitch.
Tuning Accuracy: Both tuners are generally accurate, but the Korg Pitchclip is known for its high accuracy and quick response. It uses a piezo sensor to detect vibrations from the instrument, which helps in providing precise tuning readings. The Snark tuner also provides good accuracy, but some users have reported occasional issues with accuracy and responsiveness.
Price: The price point of these tuners can vary, but generally, the Snark tuners tend to be more affordable compared to the Korg Pitchclip. The price difference can vary depending on the specific model and where you purchase it.
Features: The Korg Pitchclip offers a variety of tuning modes, including chromatic, guitar, bass, and ukulele, allowing you to tune different instruments. It also has a calibration function that allows you to adjust the tuner to match other reference pitches. The Snark tuner usually provides basic tuning options, but some models may offer additional features like a metronome.
Ultimately, the choice between the Korg Pitchclip and the Snark tuner depends on your specific needs and preferences. If you prioritize accuracy and a compact design, the Korg Pitchclip might be a better option. On the other hand, if you're looking for an affordable tuner with a larger display, the Snark tuner could be a suitable choice. It's always a good idea to read reviews and compare different models to make an informed decision."
That's right, according to GPT it is actually the Korg that appears to have better accuracy when it comes to tuning the guitar. This is a very interesting twist. Especially when we get to the point about price. This is a case where GPT may be a little bit behind in the information available. Normally they are correct as the list price for the Snark is $19.00 and for the Korg it is $24.99. However currently on Amazon the sales prices have the Snark more expensive than the Korg. So the Korg in a roundabout way has now taken the edge on that plank.
The only thing left then to really make a difference is the display. That the Snark indeed does have. If you want a bigger display and more freedom on how to see it the Snark will beat the Korg on that plank every single time. For all the stuff that remains, it is either a tie or the Korg has an edge.
There is a good bet that you won't go wrong with either. That said, if you want to take advantage of a deal while you can the fact that the Korg is going for $12.99 is an opportunity that could be worth pouncing on, and is worth a special mention.
