Pizza Cutter vs Scissors: Which One Is Better To Use? We Ask ChatGPT For Insight.

Extending off of our other article on the Pizza Rocker vs Wheel, we also decided to write up a quick article about pizza scissors. Where do they come into play in the pizza cutting world? Well believe it or not, Chat GPT has an opinion on this too. So let's dive in shall we?

For the world of pizza cutters, it can include either the pizza wheel or the rocker. In this case we will focus on the wheel just to make life simpler. Below is a pizza wheel cutter by KitchenAid. Currently going for $5.99 on Amazon and it has a 4.7 star score on over 24,000 ratings.

Next we have pizza scissors made by a brand called Asdirne. They are currently going for $9.99 on Amazon and have a 4.5 star score on over 470 ratings.

On face the wheel appears to be a cheaper option and it has a lot more feedback. Then again that is probably to be expected as the wheel is probably a more popular purchase than scissors. That being said they are not too far away in price and the scissors have at least enough good feedback to be considered. So now let's ask Chat GPT for some insight.

"Pizza cutters and pizza scissors are both specialized tools designed for cutting pizzas, and they serve similar purposes. However, they have some differences in terms of design and usage:

Pizza Cutter:

  1. Design: Pizza cutters typically consist of a wheel or rotary blade attached to a handle. The wheel is designed to roll smoothly across the pizza's surface, cutting through the crust and toppings.

  2. Usage: Pizza cutters are known for their precision in creating clean, even slices. They are particularly effective for thin-crust pizzas and can easily navigate through layers of toppings.

  3. Versatility: While primarily designed for cutting pizzas, pizza cutters can also be used for cutting other flatbreads and pastries.

Pizza Scissors:

  1. Design: Pizza scissors are specialized scissors designed for cutting pizzas. They usually have a set of two blades, with one of the blades being slightly curved for ease of use.

  2. Usage: Pizza scissors are designed to grip and cut through the pizza in a single motion. They are particularly useful for deep-dish or thick-crust pizzas, as they can tackle the thickness with ease.

  3. Versatility: Pizza scissors are less versatile than traditional kitchen scissors, as they are primarily intended for pizza cutting.

In summary, both pizza cutters and pizza scissors are efficient tools for cutting pizzas, but they excel in different scenarios. Pizza cutters are best for thin-crust pizzas and provide precise, clean slices, while pizza scissors are well-suited for deep-dish or thick-crust pizzas, making it easier to cut through the layers. Your choice between the two will depend on your personal preferences and the type of pizza you are cutting."

That's actually a pretty good breakdown and it makes sense. Scissors would make more sense for a thicker pizza as the force from the clamping gives you a better shot at getting a clean cut through the dough. Where as if your wheel is dull it can get stuck. All in all you shouldn't go wrong with either option.
